Alcatraz Tour

Wednesday, September 9, 2009.

Named by Spanish Explorer Manuel de Ayala Isla de los Alcatraces (Island of the Pelicans), this barren rock in the middle of San Francisco Bay called Alcatraz has been used as a Civil War fort, Federal prison and symbol of Native American plight. Now, the National Park Service runs Alcatraz Island.

Our tour will consist of a ferry ride across San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island and an award winning guided tour.  Once on the island, a registered National Park Services Ranger will provide a brief orientation of the Island, followed by a tour of the prison and surrounding areas.  For those with physical disabilities, the park service provides a tram up the hill every hour on the hour.

After spending a few hours on Alcatraz, we will sail back to Fisherman’s Wharf where we will visit the infamous Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square.  Our guide will highlight the many interesting features of this Wharf district and we will stop along the way to experience some of the unique offerings.  We will also leave plenty of time for shopping at the many boutique shops and attractions.

Alcatraz Tour:  $60.00 includes the bus transportation, ferry ride to Alcatraz, the guided tour of Alcatraz and the Wharf.
